Soul of a Nation
the details
The history of art in America is incomplete without the stories of Black artists working during the period of radical change from 1963–83. The civil rights, Black Power, and Black Feminism movements all challenged artists to portray the African American fight for equality and power. Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power documents over 60 of these artists – through 200 artworks – working both individually and within groups like AfriCOBRA and the Black Arts Movement.
